Xactimate training guide

Do Contractors Need Xactimate Certification?

No universal rule requires every contractor to hold Xactimate certification. A specific employer, client, network, or program may require a credential, while many contractor teams primarily need people who can inspect, sketch, document, write, and review estimates correctly.

01

Start with who is requiring the credential

Ask the employer, client, network, or program whether it requires a specific certification. Do not assume every contractor role has the same requirement.

02

Know what Parrot Key provides

Parrot Key is an independent training provider. Neil teaches practical Xactimate and Xactimate Mobile skills, but Parrot Key does not issue official Verisk or Xactware certification.

03

Choose training around the work

For most teams, the immediate question is whether staff can use the software on real properties.

  • Sketch and measure the property
  • Take organized photos and notes
  • Read line items and quantities
  • Write and check the estimate
  • Hand the job from field to office
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

  • Does Parrot Key issue Xactimate certification?

No. Parrot Key provides independent practical training and does not issue Verisk or Xactware certification.

  • What is the difference between Xactimate user certification and trainer certification?

Verisk describes user certification as validation of an individual's software proficiency at defined levels. Trainer certification is a separate credential for people Verisk has evaluated to train product users. One should not be represented as the other.

  • Do contractors need Xactimate certification to write estimates?

There is no single requirement that applies to every contractor role. Ask the company, client, network, or program involved whether it requires a particular credential, then choose training that also builds the practical skills the job requires.

  • Can practical training help before a certification exam?

Practical use can strengthen software familiarity, but Parrot Key does not claim that its training is official exam preparation unless that is stated for a specific program.

  • Can someone call themselves Xactimate certified after taking a class?

A training class and an official certification are not the same thing. Use certification language only when the credential has actually been awarded by the organization that owns and administers it.

  • What should a contractor team learn first?

Start with the work staff perform now: mobile sketching and field capture, estimate reading and writing, or photo documentation.
